Baofeng and Wouxun Programming Software

As discussed on the December 5, 2016 edition of the RAWNY Information Net, many of the low audio issues that certain models of Baufeng and Wouxun HTs exhibit may be cured by enabling the “wide-band FM” mode for transmitting. By using the CHIRP programming software, a user is able to adjust narrow or wide-band FM for RX only. The dedicated programming software from the radio’s manufacturer is required to enable the “wide-band FM mode” for TX. Doing so should greatly improve the audio output of your HT.

PLEASE NOTE THAT USING ANY PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE CARRIES A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF RISK. RAWNY IS POSTING THIS INFORMATION HERE AS A CONVENIENCE. MAKING ANY CHANGES TO YOUR RADIO USING ANY PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE IS DOING SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. RAWNY ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES OR LOSS OF MEMORY CAUSED BY USING ANY PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE. RAWNY DOES NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN DOWNLOADING, INSTALLING, OR OPERATING PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE. BAOFENG Software Downloads – Scroll through this download page to identify your model. The UV-5R, which is the most common Baofeng HT, can be found under the DOWNLOAD LINKS section on the right side of the page near the bottom.

WOUXUN Software and Manual Downloads – This page contains both software and manual downloads for most Wouxun radios. Select your radio from a list and download the appropriate software. Help files are available as well.

The original Whaddon Mark VII clandestine radio, also known as the “Paraset”, was used for clandestine radio communication primarily in Norway and Europe. This small transceiver was developed at the Royal Signals Special Communications Unit workshops at Little Horwood and the workshops of Whaddon Hall, Buckinghamshire in the early stages of World War II. The equipment is known as the “Paraset” because it was dropped by parachute for field agents. (source WikiPedia)

There are two solid state replicas of the Paraset currently in development. Each will be available as kits, and the owner will have to furbish their own chassis and case to mount the radio in.

The first replica – The Para80Set – is being produced by the QRP Guys at www.qrpguys.com/. Click on the “Transmitters and Receivers” link at the top of the page, then select “Para80Set Transceiver” page. At the time of this writing, the kit was going to be selling for $35.

The second replica – “The Bayou Jumper” – is being produced by the Four State QRP Group. Head over to www.4sqrp.com/kits/Bayou%20Jumper/bayoujumper.php for more information about this kit.
